One-act festival

Once again the walls of the .venerable State Trinity Centre resound to . the spirit of friendly competition, with the advent, of this year’s., festival’ of one-act,, plays. Seven , amateur- dramatic societies: are represented in 1 this, the. forty-sixth annual < festival. The judge for the J festival is Mr John Kim. . “The .Triplets,by John Reason, presented, St Christopher’s Drama Group, was the first one-acter pre- • sented last evening. This was, followed by “Shelter” (Alan
Owen), presented by the Oxford Little Theatre, then “The Problem” (A. R. Gurney, jun.), presented by the Halswell Drama Group. The Halswell Drama Group will also begin this evening’s programme with “The. Denouement,” by Thomas Murray. After this will, be the St Christopher’s Drama Group’s production of “Lunchtime Concert,” by Olwyn Wymark. and the evening will close with “The Space Between the Years,” by 'John. Scholes, presented by . the . Rangiora Dramatic Society, J The three plays scheduled for .tomorrow evening are “Ichabod,” by John Twinn, presented by the Christ-
church Operatic Society Drama Group; “The Man in a Bowler Hat,” by A. A. Milne, presented by the Rangiora Dramatic Society; and “The Madness of Lady Bright,” by Lanford Wilson, presented by the winner of last year’s oneact festival, the Riccarton Players. The Waimate Drama Society will present on Saturday eveing a New Zealand classic, “Jack Winter’s Dream,” by James K. Baxter.
Two of the 10 plays entered in this festival may, at the discretion of the judge, represent the Canterbury district at the divisional final to be held at Wharenui School on August 28 and 29.
