PA Auckland A company has been fined $4OO and $lO costs for not providing adequate safety provisions on a site on which a man fell off a plank and died from his injuries last year. Judge Aubin, in the District Court at Auckland, said Concrete Properties. Ltd, was charged under the Construction Act, 1959, with failing to observe the general rule that all reasonable precautions be taken to ensure the safety of workmen employed on work the company was doing on the T and C Building in Wellesley Street. On July 22, 1980, a hole 2.1 m to 2.4 m by I.Bm was made in the floor on one level. A 30cm plank was later laid across it. There were no guard rails or any safety precautions taken for the benefit of workmen using the hole or the plank. Mr Ross Singer fell off the plank, through the hole and dropped a considerable distance through the interior of the building later dying from his injuries.
