Marsden Point dispute ‘must not drag on’

PA Wellington The Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger) yesterday told reporters that the Marsden Point industrial dispute could not be left to drag on, and that he would be in touch with the Federation of Labour again fairly soon. The president of the F.0.L., Mr W. J. Knox, who was at the Beehive meeting with Mr Bolger about proposed changes to the Industrial Relations Act, said the Marsden Point shutdown had

been discussed as a side issue. The conciliation council did not gain very much when it met last Friday, Mr Knox said. “We have had a call from the boiler attendants, the operators. The F.O.L. is continuing to handle the matter.” The next move was to “have a good look at the situation. The Minister said he would be happy to have another look at it,” Mr Knox said.
