Even New Zealand’s best- loved toy, the ubiquitous Buzzy Bee, has had to undergo modification to improve its safety. The Mark I model (top) had an exposed wing axle, ingestible pull-string attached by a sharp pin, and used toxic paints. These faults have been fixed in the Mark II model (below).
