Salesman smashed windscreen
PA Wellington A parts salesman, worried that a truck would hit demonstrators on July 25. smashed its windscreenwhile it was being driven along the Hutt motorway. Kevin Ross Kroll, aged 21, pleaded guilty in the District Court at. Wellington before Judge Laing to wilful damage to the windscreen totalling $289. He was convicted and fined §2OO and ordered to pay §289. compensation. Detective Sergeant K. Hall said that at 3.45 p.m. on July 25 the truck was being driven along the motorway. Kroll picked up a stone and threw it at the windscreen, smashing, it in front of the driver's face.
The driver managed to stop about 100 m from demonstrators on the motorwav.
The defendant told the police that he “freaked out" when he saw the truck coming because he thought it was going to drive into the protesters, said Sergeant Hall.
