Woman imported drug

Nelson reporter A young Australian woman who had admitted. to the police that she had sold LSD on the streets in Australia and had imported a class-A drug from Australia to sell in New Zealand, was convicted on a drugs charge laid indictably in the District Court at Nelson yesterday. Karen Gale Simm. aged 20. a tobacco grader pleaded guilty to a charge that between July 1 and 17 she imported a class-A drug. 4-bromo-2, 5-di meth oxy amphetamine, also known as D.M.A. and “Trips.”

She was convicted by Judge Headifen and re-. manded in custody to the High Court for sentence. Sergeant P. D. Grooby said that during a customs inspection of mail from Australia, a parcel addressed to the defendant was examined. It contained 200 doses of D.M.A. This was likened to LSD and was referred to in the drug world as “trips." On July 17 the defendant's rooms at Lower Moutere were searched and the defendant admitted she .was expecting a parcel from Australia. said Sergeant Grooby.The defendant was born in

Australia and had come to New Zealand last year. Before leaving Australia she sold LSD on the streets. She had asked for some LSD to- be. sent to New Zealand for her to sell, to boost her financial position. She had received a telephone call, arid had asked for “trips” to be sent. She needed to-sell the drug because she had run into debt, said Sergeant Grooby. ’ The defendant had said she expected to sell the drug for $5O per 100. but it had been estimated that the .200 doses could have be,en sold for between $l6OO and $2OOO, he said.
