New pole vault record
NZPA-Reuter Moscow Konstantin Volkov, of the Soviet .Union, set a new world record in the pole vault yesterday when he cleared 5.84 m in a competition to mark Soviet Railway
Workers Day in bis native city of Irkutsk. He beat by three centimetres the previous record of 5.81 m set by his compatriot. Vladimir Polyakov, in Tbilisi last June.
