Walkway conditions improved
x Parliamentary reporter The Canterbury Education Board is taking measures to improve conditions on the walkways at Breens Intermediate' School, according to the Minister' of Education (Mr Wellington), Mr Wellington was asked in Parliament by Mr M. K. Moore (Lab., Papanui) if he had seen a newspaper article about the walkways and what urgent steps he would take to rectify the problem. Problems were caused by dripping water and ice forming on the walkways at the school, Mr Wellington said.
As the school's controlling authority, the Canterbury Education Board was responsible for the design and maintenance of school buildings, and intended treating a section of the covered way by applying a plastic coating to the underside of the metal roofing to inhibit the condensation.
The board would do this work soon and if, after a trial period, the treatment was found to be satisfactory, the board would extend the treatment to the rest of the covered way affected. Mr Wellington said.
