Quality was very good. A number of forward-condition steers and heifers were entered. The best price for heifers was $412 for an Angus-cross from L. C. Cherry (East Eyreton). A

VEALERS Although only a few of the 43 vealers offered (48 last week) showed any quality, the sale was satisfactory. Steers made to $241 and heifers to $224. STORE SHEEP Most of the 946 lambs yarded (1445 last week) were of light weight and interest in these was limited. Some better lambs would have been better sold as prime.

Interest in the 6018 adult sheep offered (2614 last week) was limited. Most of the in-lamb ewes were very light and would need a lot of feeding.

Some lines of good-quality breeding ewes were offered and met a strong inquiry. Values for these went to $32 but most ewes, which have been between $16.30 and $19.10. sold from $14.80 to $l6.

Sales of store sheep included:

Lili (Methven). 320 annual draft Romney ewes at $23.40. STORE CATTLE Only quality cattle included in the yarding of 412 store cattle (394 last week) had a good sale. The market was dominated by

too many plain cows and calves.

Simmental-cross steer calves made to $196 but most steer calves were between $l3O and $179. Sales of store cattle included: E. W. Turrell (Kaituna), 23 matched Simmental -Herefordcross cows at $2lO to $238. 30 Simmental-Hereford-cross steer calves at $l7O to $196; Hitchin Hills (Hawarden). 20 Angus-cross steer calves at $l4O to $172; Te Awataha Farm (Ashburton). 11 mated Hereford cows at $284: C. Fat pigs sold very well. Only very light pork made less than $9O.

Store pigs were in short supply-
