Tug Lyttelton for annual survey
The grand old lady of Lyttelton Harbour, the tug Lyttelton, will enter dry dock at 8 a.m. today for her seventy-fourth annual survey.
The Harbour Board will let the Tug Lyttelton Preservation Society use the dock for a “peppercorn rental" and most of the work would be done by volunteers, according to the society's president, Mr Grant Robinson.
He said that most of the major work on the tug had been completed when the last of the boiler tubes had been replaced. One engine would be overhauled during this new survey but most of the work would be general maintenance.
All of the tug's surveys have been in the dry dock at Lyttelton. which takes three or four hours to pump dry.
