N.Z. man arrested in Geneva
PA Wellington The New Zealand police are helping Swiss investigations concerning a New Zealand man arrested on drug charges at Geneva Airport last week.
The man, aged 32. whose name has not been, made public, has been remanded in custody for three months by a Geneva court.
The police said he had 316 grammes of heroin hidden in aerosol cannisters in his suitcase when he landed at Geneva on a Swiss Air flight from Bangkok. They alleged the man admitted that he planned to sell the drug in Geneva and Paris. He had allegedly sold 20 grams of heroin bn an earlier visit to Switzerland.
Inspector Gerry Cuncen. of the National Drug Investigation Bureau, said the Swiss police had sought background information on the man.
He said the man had not lived in New Zealand for several years. New Zealand inquiries into his history and activities were continuing.
The Swiss police also allege that the man had the name of another New Zealander now in a Geneva jail on drugs charges among his belongings.
