Two knife incidents
The Christchurch police are investigating two incidents involving knives in the city at the week-end. In one. a boy aged 15 was stabbed and robbed of his radio cassette player by three youths as he walked through Barrington Park. Spreydon. about 6.30 p.m. on Sunday. Detectives said that the boy, Paul Hewitt, had lost a lot of blood from two stab wounds in his right leg. He was in a comfortable condition in Princess Margaret Hospital yesterday. The weapon used by the robbers appeared to have been a small knife, the police said.
On Saturday evening, a 63-year-old man refused to hand over his wallet when he was threatened by a knife-wield-ing youth in the central city. The man was walking along Colombo Street, between Lichfield Street and Tuam Street, just after 8 p.m., when the youth walked up, asked him the time, and then produced a pocket knife. The man refused to hand over his wallet, insisting that
he had no money. The youth punched him in‘ the face and ran off. The police were concerned about the growing number of incidents involving knives in the city, said a spokesman.
