Peter Renner in Oceania team

The tall, Canterbury steeplechaser, Peter Renner (New Brighton), has been included as a travelling reserve for the Oceania track and field team which will contest the World Cup in Rome on September 5, 6 and 7.
He is almost certain to eventually be included as a full team member as a replacement for the champion Australian steeplechase runner, Peter Larkin, who has a stress fracture in a leg. “I heard of Peter's problem some time ago and I have been waiting for the call,” a delighted Renner said yesterday.
However, even if Larkin makes an unexpected recovery, Renner will still compete in the series of international meetings in Europe leading up to the World Cup meeting. His first race will be at Zurich on August 19. This will be followed by meetings in Berlin on August 21, Cologne or Nice on August 23, Koblenz (West Germany) on August 26, and Brussells on August 28. The feature event at the Brussells meeting will be the annual “Golden Mile” — one of the top races of the European season.
Renner is very concerned at the possible effect of the rugby tour.
