College set for success in C.S.B. Cup

An impressive Lincoln College team seems certain to carry off the C.S.B. Cup for the first-round competition in Christchurch senior rugby. Even if the side should suffer an inexplicable loss of form and drop its last two games, it is still assured of sharing the trophy with Marist, the closest challenger. On Saturday Lincoln College demonstrated its qualities forcibly in out-rucking and out-running Christchurch for a convincing win. The College side scored five tries as a result of swift, decisive play by the forwards and hard running by the backs.

Marist remained four points away in second place after a last-minute penalty goal brought victory against a tenacious Belfast New Brighton, another leading side, bent the knee to Linwood, which enhanced Linwood’s chances of heading off Shirley in the race to qualify for the top eight. University A has had its ups and downs this season and on Saturday it failed to produce its best when it was held to a draw by a bustling Burnside team. Shirley, Old

Boys, and Albion were other winners, and Merivale-Papa-nui headed University B narrowly in a match which yielded 47 points.
