New manager for ‘Star’
The Christchurch branch of the New Zealand News, Ltd. which* publishes the "Star," will have a new general manager soon. Mr E. D. P. Cooney, general manager of Taranaki Newspapers, Ltd, since December, 1973, has been appointed general manager of the Christchurch branch of New Zealand Newspapers,, Ltd. He will succeed Mr C. L. Hardie, who is retiring on July 30 after 30 years with the company in Christchurch,
the last 14 as. general manager. Mr Cooney was assistant accountant in the Auckland branch of New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd. and later accountant in Christchurch before going to New Plymouth. He has been a director of the New Zealand Press Association since 1975 and is a past president of the New Plymouth Chamber of Commerce. In 1979 he attended a programme for management development at the Harvard University Graduate School for Business.
