Newz flash
The Newz are to return to Christchurch for two weeks, according to Christine Chapman, who is running the Newz fan club. , The local band return from Australia on July 19 until August 3, and they are expected to play at the Aranui Motor Hotel from July 21. The first “Newz” letter from the club has been released giving information on what the band have been doing in Australia. According to the letter, The Newz have had one or two offers of recording contracts. Michael Gudinski (Mushroom Records) had taken the single, “Accident Prone” to Sydney to see if it could be released. “CBS Records are also very interested in the band, and someone from Sydney is going to Melbourne to check them out.”
Apparently The Newz have enough material to compile another album. The Newz had been successful in obtaining shows in
Melbourne and South Australia. .The group has a residency at Banaas night club in Melbourne on Wednesday nights, and has played at Bombay Rock, supporting The Sports, one of Australia’s top bands. “The biggest and brightest gig was at Chasers where The Newz played with Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons.”
The Christchurch band’s only means of transport at the moment is “The Raspberry,” a truck, which replaced the “Mouse Bat Follicle Goose Creature Wampasam Spong Wapcaplet Loose Liver Vendetta and Prang Pty,” which blew ,up twice before being ditched.
The Newz Fan Club can be •located at P.O. Box 7336, Christchurch, and as Christine Chapman is the sister of Bryan Colechin, The Newz’s bass guitarist, members are guaranteed all the inside information. “The Press” has bedn made an honorary member of the club. (sigh).
