Erin Pizzey’s fresh look at New Zealand

In 1978, the Women's Re : fuge movement pioneer, Erin Pizzey, visited New Zealand. Like many before her, she was amazed at the deep divisions between the sexes in this country. She found that many, men had macho attitudes and withdrew from emotional matters and the family, or were pushed out by financial pressures. On the other side, many women infantised men, regarded them as ineal tickets and concentrated on relationships with other women. in the 1930 s and 1940 s is recreated in “Songs for Lotte,” Concert, 8 p.m. The programme gives an insight into the world of Lotte Lenya, the wife of Kurt Weill, and takes the listener through the years of the Bertolt Brecht, Weill, Lenya collaboration. This is achieved with the brilliance and excitement of the songs from “The Threepenny Opera” and “Mahagonny” and the later American collaborations. Devised and performed by Darien Tackle, “Songs for Lotte” was originally a successful Darien Tackle stage production seen by New Zealand audiences last year.
