Long patient list at Templeton
Parliamentary reporter
Nearlv 190 people are waiting to enter Templeton Hospital outside Christchurch. according to the Minister of Health (Mr Gair). The hospital is for psychopaedic patients. He was answering a question in Parliament by Mrs Mary Batchelor (Lab., Avon) asking how many people were on the waiting list for Templeton Hospital,' and what the number had been a year ago.
Mr Gair said Templeton Hospital did not maintain a waiting list but had an admission register which had 180 names on it. Of these, 106 people required short-stay accommodation to provide relief for parents. There were 23 people who were non-urgent, but who would need long-term admission within their lifetime; 51 were semi-urgent cases who. because of circumstances at home, such as aging parents, would need long-term admis-
sion within the next five years; nine were people .for whom admission was becoming urgent. The Minister said that in August. 1980. there had been 216 people on the admission register.
