Record works’ kill

A record kill was completed at the Islington works of Waitaki NZR; Ltd, last Friday. The" throughput at Islington surpassed an eight-year-old record, said the general manager of the works, Mr G. R. Stobie, yesterday. So far this,season 1,148,000 ewes and lambs have been killed at Islington, beating

the record of 1,145,000 set in the 1972-73 season. This season’s kill to date was 18 per cent ahead of last season for the corresponding period. The main season closed at Islington this week but a partial chain will still work until the works closes fully for holidays and maintenance in mid-July. /
