Labour Party policy
Sir,—Allen Willens (June 20) has distorted the theme of my letter in an attempt to promote the invidious turnover tax system (T.0.T.). I did not state, and neither does the Labour Party suggest, that it is “Government spending that keeps this country going.” Rather, Labour believes in a common
sense system of taxation and monetary investment that will benefit all New Zealanders and stimulate New Zealand enterprises (yes, even private enterprises). It is a common fallacy that the Labour movement represents a Communist' (or S.U.P.) backed plot to nationalise all our industries and profit-making concerns. Utter rubbish. Labour thinks balanced, rather than big-at-any-cost, and advocates complementary roles for State and private enterprises to thrive alongside one another, in an atmosphere of co-operation. Rather that, than the law of a human jungle, with the survival of the wealthiest at the expense of the rest.—Yours, etc..
K. G. HENDERSON. . (Ms) June 20, 1981.
