Interview with Mr Muldoon
Sir,—Hobart-residing New Zealander, W. Gordon Rich, (June 22) praises Mr Muldoon’s pro-development attitude connpared with the present atmosphere in Tasmania. He should question why increasing numbers of Tasmanians are opposing development projects. Over two-thirds of the island’s forests are promised to chip mills and only one major river system remains unmodified. Belatedly people are realising that the capital and energy intensive projects are ruining their own magnificent fragment of the world’s natural heritage. I am sure Mr Muldoon in his interview did not stress that his own "think big” policies were facing increasing resistance here from many sections of the community.— Yours, etc., CHRISTINE CALDER. June 22, 1981.
