Container handling at port

Sir,—ln the report of Mr Morgan, terminal manager to the port development committee of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (“The Press,” June 20), the increased rate of handling containers at the port was featured. An increase of 50 per cent for April and 26 per cent for May was achieved — a remarkable attainment. Credit was given to road and rail cooperation. But not a word for the watersiders who surely deserve some credit and without whose co-operation these increased figures would have been impossible. Credit where credit is due is one of the oldest and soundest principles of industrial harmony. Let us remember this always. If there was more appreciation given jn our daily lives, there would be a lot more happiness.—Yours, etc.,

L. J. COOPER. June 22. 1981.
