Pass still out
The Haast Pass, which links Central Otago with South Westland, "is still closed by snow after four days. Ministry of Works and Development staff at Haast refuse to clear the snow because of a dispute about an isolation allowance. h the Westland side of the h Alps. The highway on the Il eastern side of the pass is r clear. d In the dispute, the State it' Services Commission has v agreed to implement a new it scale of allowances and has made an offer to the Come bined State Unions which is e still being considered.
