Runner chased and attacked by dogs
Ronald Collett, a. Wellington schoolboy (above) savaged by four dogs -in the Wellington suburb of Straths . more yesterday ' is thankful that he managed to stay. on • his feet during the attack. Ronald, recovering at his home last evening, said he' remembered little of the attack. which occurred while he was on a training run on the hills above Wellington 'Airport, . . 1 ' j?'’’-'-,, “I did not see ' the, dogs-. until they were almost on 'me. I had a bit of a fit when . I saw. them. One went for a leg, anothfef for an arm, and the others were there just ; barking,” he said. He tried to escape but the dogs were relentless. Finally, a woman, who appeared to- . be the owner; grabbed two of them, and the others - -followed. He. stumbled -to * nearby houses to try and calf for an ambulance' but he could not find'anybody. A ' man, however, j stopped ~ to help. . He was treated at Welling;: • ton Hospital for bit6s to the Ssh arm, leg, stomach and but-., tocks. An arm -wound re- 1 quired six stitches. ; ; Mrs E. G. Collett said that ‘ although she was upset her-!' son had been attacked, she, was thankful that, a small child had nqt been, the victim.
The police were investigating the attack last evening, - and they spoke to the owner 3 ef the dogs. ■
