Acquitted of murder
PA Gisborne Hone te Aranga Carroll, aged 21, an unemployed scrubcutter, was yesterday acquitted in the High Court at Gisborne of murdering his father, Takuta Hirinui Sydney Carroll, at their Wairoa home on July 30 last year. The jury took less than 30 minutes to reach the acquittal verdict on the ground of the defendant’s insanity. Mr Justice Thorpe ordered that Hone Carroll be detained in hospital as a special patient under the Mental Health Act.
