Mellseur wins well

Special correspondent Dunedin Mellseur had an easy win in the main flat race at the Otago Hunt Point to Point at the Wingatui Racecourse on Sunday. Mellseur won easing up by half a length from Masterlea,

which also shaped well. Mellseur shared second outside Masterlea and behind Catastrophe. She went clear in the run home and was then steadied. She ran the 1200 m in Imin 21s on a heavy track. She will probably contest the Doncaster Handicap (1200 m at the Timaru Racing Club’s meet-

ing on Saturday. She received a rocky run when making a fresh start at the Otago meeting this month.

Masterlea missed the start and recovered at the 800 m. He is to have his next start at Trentham. Luca’s Lad, the promising jumper, won the open steeplechase after a close tussle with Curly Smart, which made a favourable impression. “I will probably start him at Waimate. He is only a four-year-old and I am not going to. rush him,”' said

Bryan Kennedy, trainer of Luca's Lad. Curly Smart, which has been unplaced in two starts over hurdles, made a good fist of the bigger fences. The close relative of Swell Gent will probably race on the second day of the Timaru meeting.
