With the winter chill-tak-ing a grip on Christchurch people, now might be a good time for a visit to the Sil-houette-American Health Studio.

The studio offers expert and individual attention for people who are overweight, underweight, unfit or just physically run-down. The manager of the health studio, ■ Mr Con Stricke. said they have also had excellent results helping people suffering from asthmatic conditions. •

"It is excellent therapy for people suffering from such ailments. We have all types of people coming to see us beside those who just want to keep-fit,” Mr Stricke said. People with high bloodpressure, Mr Stricke said, had found the treatment at American Health Studio very beneficial. "Disabled .people, or anybody who can't participate in normal sport can have a programme tailor-made for them,” he said.

"Business people and those who are working under stress are others who benefit

tremendously from our effective programmes.” The American Health Studio has a fully trained staff of 10 men, and Silhouette a fully trained staff of 10 women. Results were the top concern and, Mr Stricke said, for this reason every cli.ent is measured and fully appraised before- they embarked on a specific programme. "Every 16 visits the client is re-measured and the client's programme is altered accordingly. Every client has their own personal programme-chart on which all relevant details are carefully recorded and filpd,” he said. The studio, on the corner of Madras and Hereford Streets, is open six days a week. Its members range in age from eight-year-olds to those in their late 70s. Mr Stricke, previously a physical education teacher, has been with the studio for 18 years. Equipped with a massive array of modern gymnasium apparatus, the studio also_

- has - a tiled steam-room, a dry sauna-room arid two so- - lariums. f Membership costs can be p as low as 90 cents per visit, u which includes full use of the studios two big work-out areas under personal superr vison and also use of the s steam-room. ■ On a yearly membership ’ basis, the cost is $240 for 144 visits. Massage and sauna t facilities however, are addi- , tional to the membership fee. s According to Mr Stricke. it ,> is the only studio in this 1 country belonging to both the ! I.P.F.A. (International Physi- . cal Fitness Association) and 3 the A.H.A. (Allied Health Association). Both organisar tions demand top class staff j and facilities, of all their j associated member studios, i Mr Stricke said. > He also pointed out that with 5000 locations throughi out the world, a client of . American Health Studio • could, if he wished, transfer his course to an overseas branch and continue membership with no additional cost.

The Silhouette-American Health Studio is running a competition with a trip for two to Hobart as the prize. There are two ways of .becoming eligible for the prize, according to the manager of the health studio, Mr Con Stricke: 0 Members who bring along a friend to the studio and who subsequently enrol as a member have an automatic chance. ® All new enrolments up to September 3 also will have their names placed in the draw. The sponsors are Ansett Airlines of Australia and Dalgety Travel.
