Boom in oil rig construction
A worldwide shortage of offshore drilling rigs over the last several years has led to extremely high chartering rates and delays to oil exploration programmes, including some in New Zealand waters. However, that situation, according to industry authorities, 'may soon be reversed as more than 200 rigs at present under construction become available for charter.
