Young Farmer finalist

Mr N. P. Barnett, of Dunsandel, will participate in the final of the. Skellerup Young Farmer of the Year contest in Auckland on July 31. Mr Barnett, aged 25, is the younger son of Mr M. R. Barnett, a member of '• the Meat Board, with whom he farms in partnership. Mr N. P. Barnetrt won the Tasman regional final of the contest in Blenheim on Friday from 10 competitors, including two from each of the five districts of the Young Farmers' Club in the region, which extends from the Rakaia River to the top of the South Island, including the West Coast. . The runner-up was. Mr D. Parsons, of the West Coast district. The contestants underwent practical tests on Friday, were interviewed, and then faced rounds-,of questions at the Woodbourne Tavern,

Renwick, in the evening. Mr N. P. Barnett, who is married and who has a son, aged five months, has been a member of the Young Farmers' Club since 1972 and is vice-chairman of the Tasman region.
