True Charm brings luck

Blenheim <True .Charm brought a change of fortune to her breeders. Messrs Tom Hickman and Jim Forsyth, both Marlborough farmers, and stewards of the local trotting club, when she won the A. E. Cresswell Handicap at Waterlea on Saturday. After being well off the pace early, she improved sharply from the 800 m and responded gamely for Patrick O'Reilly. Jun., to win by half a length from the pacemaker. Wcllstood, which is also overdue for a win. True Charm.is a five-year-old mare by the New Zealand Cup winner, True Averil, from Miss Charming,
She is a younger sister to Lord .Charming, which also gained his initial success at Waterlea. He was sold to North America, but died before he won a race there.
The Templeton trainer, Derek Jones, had two winning drives. He won the E. J. Wilson Memorial with John Daniel, a member of his own team, and two races later he drove the Central Otagoowned and trained Blue John to a clear-cut victory in the W. J. Murray Handicap. Blue John was at odds of almost 24-to-l when he beat Julie's Decision quite decisively. The hot favourite Far Out. broke hopelessly at the start and was never a chance.
