Flight tapes sought

PA Wellington Police investigating aspects of the Royal Commission hearing into the Mount Erebus crash are seeking help from passengers on three Air New Zealand flights to Antarctica in 1977. Detective , Chief Superintendent Bridn. Wilkinson, who heads the five-man inquiry team, said that the police were making a special appeal for tape recordings of comments made by flight crews or tour commentators during the sightseeing flights

on February 15 and 22 and October 18, 1977. Such tapes would help establish patterns of routine which might greatly assist inquiries, he said. The owners of such tapes should hand them in to their local police. statioh. The police throughout the country had been given instructions on receiving and handling the recordings. The police are not seeking other material, such as photographs. Mr Wilkinson said.
