Lincoln Coll. extends C.S.B. Cup lead

Lincoln College extended its lead in the C.S.B. Cup senior rugby competition from two points to four on Saturday when it finished strongly to beat High School Old Boys and its nearest rival. Marist, lost to Christchurch. Next Saturday. Lincoln College will meet Christchurch and if it wins it can seriously think about ordering the champagne. Its final two rivals are Hornby and Belfast. Christchurch is perhaps a little fortunate still to be in a challenging position. It had mainly the "generosity" of its opponent. Marist. to thank for its win on Saturday. Marist did everything right apart from scoring enough points

for three-quarters of the match and then fell apart when Christchurch found, late in the piece, that the ball was not the property of the Marist club. However, there was some good football from Christchurch in this period, especially from its full-back, Robbie Deans. Its biggest problem against Lincoln' College is almost certainly setplay possession. z . New Brighton and Belfast had wins on Saturday, although neither was impressive to keep alive their hopes of winning the cup if Lincoln College should run into a bad patch. University A showed how much better a team it is on a dry day by scoring eight tries against Suburbs. The battle be- , tween Linwood and Shirley: as to which of them will make the top eight, stayed the same with both sides winning comfortably. Old Boys is in some danger of being caught up in this struggle, too. However, it will welcome the prospect of easier games in the next two weeks. One of the best games of the day was between the usually unsung teams. Albion and Sydenham. They finished level at 13-13 after a free-flowing match in which both sides played as well

as they have all season. Results and scorers: LINCOLN.COLLEGE 16 (M. Mclntosh, I. Rickard tries; J. Holmes two penalty goals and a conversion) beat HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS 7 (A. McPhail a. try; A.
