‘Lift’ for rugby

The scintillating test between the All Blacks and Scotland could not have come at a better time for rugby, said the chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union's council, Mr Ces Blazey, at an after-match function at Eden Park on Saturday. “It was a good day, a good ground, a good crowd, and a good game by two enterprising teams,” he said.' “I am most grateful to everyone involved for what they did for rugby at this particular time.”

Mr Peter Burke, the New Zealand coach, produced the time-honoured phrase about rugbv being the winner and the All * Black captain, Graham Mourie, expressed a similar sentiment. Mourie thanked the Scots for helping to project a good image for rugby. “The rugby was good, the players enjoyed it, and it must have been entertaining for the crowd,” he said. “And the match was played in a sporting spirit. That’s what it is all about.”
