Yule Three generations of the Butt family, of Templeton, will compete in the Wes Butt: Stakes, a race.for four-year-. old: trotters at the Canterbury Park Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway on Saturday. It is thought to be the first time in ' New Zealand that three generations of the one family have driven in a race. Wes Butt, one of the more successful reinsmen in Canterbury for many years and a prominent trainer, will retire from race driving at the end of this season. He will drive Strydom, trained by his son, Murray Butt, for the latter’s wife, Jennifer. A son, Robin Butt, has been engaged to drive Jamie Higgins, while his son, David, aged 16, will be having his first drive in a totalisator race. . The Trotting Conference has extended David Butts race trials licence, to the probationary category so

that he can compete against his father and grandfather in the Addington race. David Butt will drive Smith and Jones, trained by his other grandfather, Jack Litten, at West Melton.
