Good Way bright hope

Special correspondent Dunedin Good Way is a fresh runner at the Otago Racing Club’s winter meeting with bright prospects in the Birthday Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Wingatui today. Good Way, a stablemate of Highborn, which won the main race on Saturday, was a last-start winner over 2000 m on a soft track at Riccarton 11 days ago. He also won a 2000 m highweight and finished fourth in the Great Autumn Handicap (2500 m at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Easter meeting. Sweeney Todd, which made a promising reappearance when fourth in the Amberley Cup on May 16, will come in for close attention today. He ran second to Pennianne in the race 12 months ago. Fleetwood Mac will be better suited by today’s distance than the 1600 m on the first day. He won twice over middle distances at Invercargill last month, though on softer footing than he is likely to encounter today. The longer distance should also suit Mr Ay Bee and Firpo, fourth and fifth on Saturday. Tiara, a last start winner in a lower grade at Oamaru and Reglo, which ran her to half a length are lightweights capable of racing in front and seeing out the 2200 m. Francille, Taramoa and Karanga are a likely trio for the Union Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. Francille, has been placed in recent starts in better fields than she meets today. Taramoa, which was taken out of his engagement on the first day because of his wide draw, indicated he was ready to win at short notice when second to Karanga over 1400 m at Invercargill fresh up last month. Karanga also won at Riverton at Easter.
