El Jefe to race in Canada
The smart two-year-old, El Jefe, unbeaten in his first five starts this season, and Smokey Lopez, the first pacer to win a mile race in better than two tninutes in New Zealand as a three-year-old, have been sold and will do their future racing in the interests of the Halifax owner-trainer, Milton Downey- . The sales were negotiated by the West Melton trainer,,
I Ivan Schwamm, who will accompany them when they leave for Canada towards the end of June. El Jefe, a gelding by El Patron from Deference, and Smoke;’ Lopez were both raced by Mr Ben Grice. Smokey Lopez 1... S done little racing in the past three seasons because of a foot injury. He has grown a new hoof and is perfectly fit now.
