Wages and taxes
Sir,—Mr Muldoon is demanding wage cuts for tax cuts; if he gets this, will he guarantee that there will be no more reductions in the income tax Allowances on the income tax Returns to make up for the tax cuts? Previous tax cuts have resulted in the gentle removal of the personal allowance from the income tax return form, along with a gentle increase in the tax rates on the same form. Perhaps next year we may lose the spouse allowance or one of the other allowances, to pay for the latest cuts. — Yours, etc., F. FLOWERS. May 26, 1981.
