N.Z film bought by U.K. group
PA Wellington The producer, Mr John O’Shea, has announced in Cannes that his new’film “Pictures,” has been bought by the Cinegate company of London.
The feature film, not yet released in New Zealand, has been one of three films from New Zealand which have been acclaimed at the Cannes film festival. Established seven years ago, the Cinegate cinemas have been very successful in establishing the reputation of many German and French film-makers in Britain. “Pictures” has also been
sold to Germany and to Scandinavian countries. Two American companies have also made offers for it. It will be one of three new features from New Zealand which will show in British cinemas this year.
“Beyond Reasonable Doubt” will have a British release in October. Two offers have been made for “Goodbye Pork Pie” in the United kingdom. The marketing director for the New Zealand Film Commission (Mr L. Shelton) said that this contract was expected to he finalised soon.
New sales of the film have been made to Sweden, Turkey, Portugal, and Greece.
