Graduation ceremony faces change
The format of the graduation ceremony at Lincoln College' will have to be changed.- because of the numbers attending, the "Lincoln College Council . has been told.
This year's ceremony had been “embarrassing” for the administration because Gillespie Hall, where the ceremony was held,- could not accommodate the people who turned up for it, said the acting registrar (Mr J. H. Scott).
The liall could seat only 1000 people, he said, and next year 1350 people were expected to attend the ceremony.
Mr Scott said that Gillespie Memorial was the biggest hall at the college, and unless the ceremony was held outside the college the format of the ceremony
would have to be altered. Several council members spoke strongly in favour of keeping the ceremony at Lincoln, and a resolution to that effect was passed unanimously.
To solve the problem the ceremony would have to be split into separate ceremonies for degree and diploma graduands, or for different disciplines, or into morning and afternoon ceremonies, Mr Scott said.
