Finances of Air N.Z. for investigation
PA Wellington Parliament’s powerful Public Expenditure Committee will proceed with an investigation of the financial management of Air New Zealand. The National member of Parliament for Pahiatua (Mr J. H. Falloon) who will head a sub-committee to make the investigation, said yesterday that the committee had established that there were no procedural impediments to prevent the study. No resolution of the House of Representatives was required, he said. With Mr Falloon on the sub-committee are Messrs J. H. Elworthy (Nat., Waitaki). D. C. McKinnon (Nat., Albany), M. A. Connelly (Lab.. Yaldhurst), and R. O. Douglas (Lab., Manurewa).
Mr Falloon said he had already written to the chairman of the Air New Zealand Board, Mr C. W. Mace, seeking an early meeting with board members and the chief executive to discuss the methods and parameters of the investigation.
Fie aad also already had a short discussion with Mr Mace and assured him that the committee’s investigation would not interfere with commercial operations or impede the management. “The whole committee is determined that our final report will be constructive and aimed at assisting the company by improving the relationship between Air New Zealand and its owners, the people of New Zealand,” Mr Falloon said.
