A second Labour Party candidate for the General Election has become redundant as a result of business closings within .his region.
The candidate for Manawatu was made redundant by the closing of Manawatu Transport, Ltd, at Palmerston North, the Shadow Minister of Labour, Mr T. K. Burke, disclosed yesterday.
Earlier in the year, the party’s candidate for Gisborne, Mr A. Wallbank, a Gisborne stock agent, was made redundant by his company. Mr Burke said the Labour Party was shocked and dismayed at the decision to lay off staff at the Manawatu company. He said workers were being denied a week's leave in lieu of notice as well as redundancy payments.
