Two players suspended
Two premier, rugby league players . were’ last evening suspended by the Canterbury board of control after being sent off in recent matches.
Phil Prescott (Halswell) was given a two-game suspension after being charged with abusing the referee (Mr ft.-J. A. Mackenzie) while playing against Hornby on Sunday. ’ ■’« Craig Cox. of Kaiapoi. will stand down for one match. He was dismissed by .Mr A. 16. Cox was accused of deh berately kicking an opponent. A protest from the Papanui club that Marist had no right to play Terry . Gillman and. Ra> Baxendale in premier football on Sunday was declined. Gillman and Baxendale withdrew from the national trial the previous day.
The board’s by-laws refer only to fa conflict of club and provincial football, and the New Zealand Rugby League regulations ban players from club football only-if it clashes with first-class commitments
