PA Wellington A total of $40,000 has been raised in the Food for Poland appeal, $9OOO of it from a special charity recital by the Australian pianist, Roger Woodward, in Wellington on Sunday. Mr Woodward, who studied in Warsaw for several years and speaks “Polish, gave all the proceeds from the recital . to the appeal. Through the appeal's efforts a consignment of 20 tonnes of New Zealand cheese was expected to be received by the Red Cross in Poland yesterday..."

The Polish Association is organising the appeal, in conjunction with the New Zealand Red Cross, and intends to send three containers of milk products and meat to Poland in the next few weeks. Extensive floods in Poland last year destroyed more than *4O per cent of the harvest.
