Govt housing move?
PA Wellington A Government financial package to meet what the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) called “Changing needs in the housing field” was discussed yesterday by the Cabinet; ■ ■7 _• Mr, Muldoon told reporters later that the package would not be finalised before next week and it might be some time after that before it was announced.
He said a difficulty ip putting the package together < involved geographical distortions in that prices of existing houses in certain limited areas had moved up. By and large, however, new house 1 prices were still-well ahead of existing house price levels and Were “well ahead” in most parts of the country. “Contrary to the view ex-.’ . pressed by some observers
we don't have a housing crisis or anything like it. People wishing to buy houses are being financed. "There is a relative state of balance although there is potential evidence of a shor- : tage of rental accommodation in one or two places? Generally it (housing) is in better balance than it has been for some time,” Mr Muldoon said.
