Barkle, Latham retained
Despite the availability of last Saturday’s All Black trialists, Steve Scott and Wayne Smith, the Canterbury rugby selectors have retained Gary Barkle and Rod Latham as the inside backs for the match against West Coast at Greymouth tomorrow. Barkle and Latham were in tandem in the side which was to have met West Coast last Wednesday. However, the match had to be called off when heavy snow prevented the Canterbury side
completing its trip to Greymouth. Scott and Smith have been included, as reserves, in the party which will make a second attempt tomorrow. Three changes have been made in the team that was to have played last week, the most interesting being that Steve Hansen has been placed on the wig left vacant by Randal Scott. Scott aggravated a back injury in a club match last Saturday, and also not considered because of injury, to
a hip, was Scott's University A team-mate, Victor Simpson. Hansen, usually a centre, where he was "in brilliant form for his Marist club side last Saturday, has had a slow start to the" Season because of injury. His form on the flank could well be significant as the Canterbury back selector Mr Gerald Wilson, does not have many strong candidates for the additional wing he may soon require. The other two changes are Don Hayes, who will captain
the side, for his Country partner, Ross- Loffhagen, and Murray Davie for John Ashworth, who has been released to play for Sub-unions against Nelson Bays at Culverden. The team is: Robbie Deans, Steve Hansen, Craig Green, Brett petgen, Kieran Keane, Rod LatGat 7 Peter white MbX Anderson, Don jj aves Murray Davie Mick Pow]ey; p' a t O'Byrne, Reserves- Steve Scott Wavne smith. Gwynn Williams, Rob Mclntosh. John Mika.
