Schools’ golf to Shirley

Shirley Boys’ High School made no race' of the inaugural National Provident Fund golf tournament for secondary schools’ teams at the old Harewood course. The Shirley A team of four all broke 80, and with the worst score (79) being deleted, the team had a gross score of 231. The best Shirley score was 76 by

Stephen Barry, 'who was runnerup in the recent South Island boys’ championship. The other team members and their scores were: S. Dalkie 78, B. Lavender 77, and M. Elley 79. Christchurch Boys’ High School A finished second on 248, and St Bede’s was third on 253. The best net was won by Lincoln High School A. Fourteen teams competed.
