Audit for Air N.Z.
PA Auckland The international committee which will audit Air New Zealand’s flight operations division will examine most of the points isolated for criticism in the Royal Commission’s report on the Mount Erebus DCIO disaster. The airline board has released the terms of reference for the committee, which is being assembled by the International Air Transport Association, in Montreal. It will examine: ® The organisational structure • and functional responsibilitiies of the division. © The lines of command and communication pro-
cedures in the division, and within other divisions. ® The relationship of the division to the chief executive’s office, or top management, or both. • Administrative procedures in the division. © The role of executive pilots and the director of flight operations acting in administrative capacities as well as fulfilling flying duties. • Any other matters in regard to the company’s flying operations and flight operations division upon which it may wish to comment or make recommendations. The board statement said the committee would be free
to. receive and seek advice and comment within the terms of reference from anybody it saw fit. The committee has still to be appointed by 1.A.T.A., and some difficulty is being experienced in finding the two or three people with the experience and appropriate backgrounds who would be available for the job. The chairman of the board (Mr C. W. Mace) said the board had advised the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) that it expected to be in a position to reply to his list of questions by June 3. A sub-committee had also been formed to work on the Sintment of a permanent executive.
