Composer of the week
Henry Purcell is Composer of the Week on the Concert Programme at 10.16 tonight, and two aspects of his music are featured. First there is instrumental music from Purcell’s “The Masque in Dioclesian.” The performers are the Concentus Musicas of Vienna with Alfred Deller conducting. Then the musicologist, Robert Petre, describes and performs pieces from a volume entitled “The Harpsichord Master.” This was published shortly after Purcell’s death. All original •copies were believed lost until Robert Petre discovered this one in the Rare Book Room of the Auckland Public Library in 1978. Guitarist The great Spanish guitarist, Andres Segovia, was a close associate of British guitar teacher, composer and arranger, John Duarte; In this illustrated programme on Concert at 9.30 p.m. he talks about the art of Segovia. Franck recording Christina Ortiz, the Brazi-lian-born pianist who toured New Zealand earlier this year, is the soloist in a new recording of Cesar Franck’s Symphonic Variations. Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra. Concert, 8.42 p.m. New writing New Zealand writing, bookselling and publishing is examined fortnightly on the Thursday Concert Programme. man, has compiled and presents the Concert Programme’s regional survey of the visual and performing arts this week in Auckland Tonight at 7.30.
