Beatles ‘never lived in Penny Lane house'

NZPA Liverpool Near Penny Lane there is a house that wants a customer the house, according to its seller, where John Lennon was born. Advertised across Europe, the tiny two bedroom terrace at 9 Newcastle Road is also said to be the place where the murdered singer lived in the early days of the Beatles, “a few yards from Penny Lane.” But a relative of Lennon was yesterday quoted as saying that was a downright lie. The Essex property company that advertised the house in the “International Herald Tribune” is, according to a British newspaper, trying to sell it for a vastly inflated price. > ‘ .

The “New Standard” pop columnist quoted Lennon’s Aunt Mimi as saying: “It has got nothing to do with John. . “It was my mother’s house and John, who was born in the Liverpool Maternity Hospital, was only there for a coule of months as a small child. . . “The Beatles never ;even saw the place. I’m so tired of all these lies.. They’re untrue and downright wicked.” In its defence the real estate company says 9 Newcastle Road is the address on Lennon’s birth certificate, and a woman who lives next door remembers him quite well throughout his youth. Lennon was shot dead outside his New York apartment on December 8.
