Ship for dock again
The Russian fishing vessel Terney which had problems at Lyttelton’s graving dock on Tuesday will return to the dock tomorrow.
Captain R. Fast, a spokesman for the ship’s agent, said that • a misunderstanding about the depth of the vessel had led to'Tuesday’s eriiergency. ? ?y The Terney had to tie' towed from the dock after at had failed to centre on the blocks in the dock. Three fire engines; pumped water from' the caisson blocking the dock so that the caisson could be refloated and the vessel towed to safety. Had this; failed the 2540-ton / vessel would have keeled over, y/.
Captain Fast said, “The Terney . was a bit too deep. We-thdught it was 4.8 metres defep when it was in fact 5.3 metres deep.” Divers inspected the vessel yesterday'and found no sign of damage.,- r : Some of the ; ship’s ballast -will be taken/-off so . that Jit can be manoeuvred, into tile' dock for repairs'made rd'its propeller guard.
